The Essential Ingredients.
Beer is fantastic (when consumed responsibly) and is brewed using 4 main ingredients; Water, Grain, Hops & Yeast. It’s fascinating to see the variety of beers being produced by breweries, whether it’s a tropical hop heavy IPA or a rich caramel stout, the 4 fundamental ingredients remain the same.
There is however, one other ingredient which is added to your favourite beers that you might not have thought about – Gas!
Altering the mixture of gas can have a significant effect on the mouthfeel of the end product, carbon dioxide adds that refreshing fizz you enjoy on a summers day, where a higher nitrogen content produces a higher quantity of smaller bubbles, producing a smooth and creamy mouthfeel.
Gas has a significant effect on the end product and enhances the overall experience you have when consuming a nice beer from your favourite brewers. That’s why we consider Hobbybrew to be the “5th ingredient”, because… who wants a flat pint?
Promoting Quality & Safety.
We know that a “rogue” gas cylinder can prove dangerous and that a poor quality product can result in a poor quality pint (nightmare!). It is for these reasons that quality and safety are at the heart of everything we produce.

History of Hobbybrew.
In 1978, our parent company, Dixons Gas Ltd, was established. They initially started their business by supplying Newcastle upon Tyne with home heat gas and are now one of the largest gas suppliers in the North East of England and Scottish Borders. Their product range now includes a vast industrial gas product range as well as their own beverage gases which are supplied to the bars and restaurants of Newcastle upon Tyne.
2011 saw the launch of our sister company, Hobbyweld, who have built an envious reputation of their own for supplying rent free professional industrial gases. Unlike our parent company, Hobbyweld is available throughout the United Kingdom and Republic of Ireland. Their product range consists of 5 gases/gas mixes available in 3 different sizes.
Fast forward to 2021, the demand for professional food grade dispense gas is at an all time high – home bars, pubs in sheds and home brewing is becoming more accessible and increasingly affordable. Responding to demand, Hobbybrew was launched to provide a cost effective alternative without jeopardising the quality!
